Cayman residents travelling overseas have more room to save on back-to-school shopping this summer. The Cayman Islands Government has temporarily increased the duty-free allowance for returning residents to CI$1,000 through August 31, 2026.   The higher summer allowance applies to eligible personal and household goods and is intended to provide additional cost-of-living relief during a busy spending period for families. This can include back-to-school purchases such as uniforms, shoes, electronics and other essentials.   From September 1, 2026, the temporary CI$1,000 allowance ends and the standard duty-free allowance will permanently increase from CI$500 to CI$800. Goods above the applicable allowance must be declared, and duty is payable on the excess. The allowance does not cover merchandise or goods intended for resale.
